FAQ's

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

The treatments are slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. The first treatment is usually the most uncomfortable, due to the density of the hair in the area being treated. For patients with very thick, dark hair, the laser treatment may me slightly more uncomfortable than those with thin hair. Each treatment will be less uncomfortable than the last, as each time about 20 percent of the hair in any given area has been destroyed, therfore reducing the amount of heat absorbed and the sensation felt from the laser. Some have compared the sensation to a snapping of a rubber band on their skin.

Does the hair grow back?

Laser Hair Removal is achieved in a series of sessions, usually about 6--8 weeks apart. The average number of sessions needed to achieve over 80 percent hair reduction is approximately 4 to 7 sessions. In between each monthly session, some of the hair will regrow as hairs grow in cycle. Hairs that may have been dormant at your last session will become active and will be treated at your next session. This is why multiple treatment sessions are required. Once all the hair follicles have been treated, the hair will not regrow.

What should I do to prepare for my Laser Hair Removal treatment?

After your initial consultation, you should refrain from tweezing or waxing any of the hair from the area in which you plan on treating. If you have been tweezing or waxing the treatment area for a long period of time, you may need to wait 3 to 4 weeks before beginning treatment, to allow the hair to regrow. Throughout treatment, the only form of hair removal that will be permitted is shaving. You may remove the hair from the surface of the skin on a daily basis, but will not be allowed to tweeze, shave or thread, as we need the hair to be underneath the skin for the laser to kill its follicle. For each session, you should come in with clean, shaved skin, free of any lotions, creams, tanning products or oils. Some medications, like antibiotics, may also affect your treatment, but your technician will address this issue at the time of consultation.
